Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU), with an over eight-decade legacy, represents excellence and knowledge in India. Guided by the mission of Karamshi Jethabhai Somaiya, founder, SVU, a Padma Bhushan awardee, the university aspires to create global citizens and has flourished into a multi-disciplinary institution. His first initiative in education was the founding of Somaiya Vidyavihar Mandir School in 1942 in rural Maharashtra to provide quality holistic education. He guided Somaiya Vidyavihar University until 1999, after which his son Shantilal K. Somaiya was at the helm of affairs till 2010. Currently, Shantilal’s son, Samir Somaiya, a Cornell University and Harvard University alumnus, serves as the Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University. A well-known industrialist, Samir Somaiya is also chairman and managing director, Godavari Biorefineries.
