Title : Soybean intercropping with different levels of nitrogen in sugarcane.

Author : R. B. Khandagave and P.G. Satpute.

Year : 1994-95

This experiment was laid down on 19th February 1994. In this trial 12 treatments were imposed. The nitrogen level being, 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 percent of the recommended dose with and without soybean in sugarcane. CoC 671 and Monetta varieties were being used for sugarcane and soybea respectively. The observations recorded for juice quality as well as yield attributes for this experiment is as presented in Table No. 6a and 6b. Based on the observations recorded it is felt that soybean as an intercrop increased the yield by 2-4 Tonns in addition the soybean yield. It is also observed that C2 N3 given maximum CCS% (16.10). This being soybean intercropped sugarcane having 75% of the recommended dose of nitrogen and C2 N5 maximum yield (115.99 MT ha-1) this being soybean intercropped sugarcane with 100 percent recommended dose of nitrogen. In cropping system one i.e the C1 N5 produced highest CCS (17.34 MT ha-1) and C2 it is C2 N5 produced highest CCS (18.43 MT ha-1). In the Monitoring Committee Meeting held on 1st August 1995 it was suggested to take up soil samples for nutrient analysis. This will help in inter-pretation of the observation. Therefore, the same is being followed for the ensueing experiment which is repeated for the second year.
