Title : EFFECT OF
SHORT HOT WATER TREATMENT ON BUD GERMINATION IN
Author :

This project is
carried out during July 1990 with the objective of studying the effect of different
temperature and time interval levels on bud germination A completely randamised block
experimental design was adopted. Twelve treatments with apparantly healthy canes of
variety Co 740 were included. Each treatment received a grass plot size of 18 m2.
Germination count was recorded at 10, 20, 30 and 40 days after planting. The final
germination count data at 40 days is taken for statistical analysis. The treatments and
results are presented in Table 5 and 6.

Table 6.
Analysis of Variance of % Bud Germination Data.
a. Among the hot
water treatments, treatment 2. i.e. 46 oC for 30 min. recorded significantly higher
percent bud germination (67.5) which is on par with treatments 1, 3 and 4.
b. Treatments 5,
6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, 11 were on par.
c. Significantly
lowest percent bud germination (28.5) recorded by treatment 12. as compaired to the
remaining treatments.
d. Results
revealed that higher temperature cupled with longer treatment time interval reduces bud
germination considerably.
