Title : SELECTION
OF VARIETIES FOR SPECIAL SEASON PLANTING(JUNE-JULY)
Author :
R.S.Patil,VasudevRao,T.D.Krishnamurthy and S.I. Harlapur.
Twelve early
maturing sugarcane varieties including Co 6907 were tried during 1988 special season as
per the recommendation of previous General Council Meeting. This experiment is taken with
a view to find out the varieties suitable for special season planting and harvesting at
9-10 months of crop age in April-May so as to extend the crushing period beyond April by
assuring supply of good quality cane.
The experimental
details, location etc. are summerised below.

The data on juice
quality, yield and yield parameters are given in Table 5 and 6.
TABLE - 5.
VARIETAL TRIAL FOR JUNE-JULY PLANTING JUICE QUALITY AT DIFFERENT MONTHS OF CROP AGE.
TABLE - 6.
SUGARCANE VARIETAL TRIAL FOR JUNE-JULY PLANTING YIELD PARAMETERS.
Variety Co 6907
gave the highest pol percent juice (16.0) at 9 months of crop age, followed by Co 8013,
CoC 8001, Co 7508 which were superior to quality standard CoC 671. Variety CoC 8201 and
CoA 8401 were also comparable in quality to that of CoC 671. Variety Co 6907 maintained
its superiority in quality even at 10 months by giving a pol percent juice of 18.8
followed by Co 7704, CoC 8201 and quality standard CoC 671. Variety Co 8013 and Co 7508
were also comparable in quality to CoC 671 at harvest. Variety, CoC 671 gave higher cane
yield of 101.2 tonnes per hectare followed by Co 8001, CoC 8201, CoA 7701, CoA 8401, Co
6907 and CoT 8201. Sugar yield per hectare was worked out based on CCS% and cane yield.
Variety CoC 671 recorded higher sugar yield of 11.5 t/ha due to its higher cane yield
(101.2 t/ha) and moderately high CCS per cent (11.36), followed by Co 8013, Co 6907 and
CoC 8201.
