The second stage clonal trial was initiated on 5th February 1980. The varieties included were Co 7306, Co 7508, Co 7530, Co 7603, Co 7604, Co 7610, Co 7703, Co 7704, Co 62174 and Q.49 along with Co 6415 and Co 62175 as check. This trial was harvested on 8th February 1981 and the observed data is appended in Table - 2. The varieties Co 7704, Co 7508, Co 62174 and Q.49 were showed early maturity characters and Co 7604, Co 7610, Co 7530, Co 7603 showed mid-late maturing characteristics. The former four varieties were therefore taken for multiplication so that they can be tested in June planting season where early maturing and short duration genotypes necessity is more. The later four varieties have been promoted to final varietal trial of 1981.
