A preliminary varietal trial with 19 varieties with 2 checks were planted on 8th Feb. 1980. Varieties tested in this trial were Co 7220, G.72128, LG. 7334, LK. 364, Co 7702, Co 7705, Co 7712, Co 7715, Co 7801, Co 7802, Co 7803, Co 7804, Co 7805, Co 7806, Co 7807, Co 7808, Co 7809, Co 7810, Co 7811, Co 6415 and Co 62175 as check. The trial was harvested on 10th February 1981. The detail quality and yield data recorded is appended in Table 1. The 10 varieties promoted to second stage clonal trial were LK. 364, Co 7801, Co 7802, Co 7803, Co 7804, Co 7805, Co 7806, Co 7807, Co 7808 and Co 7810.
