Title : To
Study the Effect of Polaris on Juice Quality in Sugarcane during the decline phase.

A feeler experiment was carried out
to determine whether polaris applied to the foliage of Sugarcane delay late season
deterioration in the quality of cane. In field No. A-3/72 a commercial crop of Co 419 was
available. It was proposed to spray this crop with Polaris at 3 different doses, 2, 4, and
6 Kg/ha; a fortnight before attainment of peak quality. In Co 419 peak quality is normally
reached at Sameerwadi, around the middle of February. Spray application of Polaris was
therefore scheduled for 1st week of February. However, due to delay in the receipt of the
chemical, the application could be make only on 5th March 1977. Samples were collected at
fortnightly intervals from each treatment and analysed for Brix, Pol and Puirty. The
results are summarised in Table III. The differences between treatments were not
statistically significant, possibly because deterioration had already set in before
treatment was applied. However, at the highest dose an arrest in the rate of deterioration
is indicated. This experiment is being repeated during 1978.
