Title  : Studies on Gamma-irradiation-induced mutation in Sugarcane.

Author : R .S.Sachan, A.T. Yaragattikar,P,Y,Keskar , R.G.Menon and H.L.Kulkarny.

Year :1976-77

240 buds of each of two varieties, Co 419 and Co 740 which were given acute irradiation at doses varying from 1 Kr. to 4 Kr. at the Bhaba Research Centre, Trombay, had been planted in field No. A-1/72, for observations, in June 1975. Selection were made from the plants raised from these buds. Observations recorded are furnished in Table VI 8 clumps of Co 419 treated at 2 Kr. were identified as mutants with commercial promise, as they recorded higher weight per cane and higher sucrose % juice than untreated checks. These 8 clumps were harvested and replanted on 3rd January 1977, in serial order of buds in field No. A-9/72 for further studies.
