Health
related social Activities
About 60-65 per cent of the
Indian population lives in rural areas
where along with poverty and illiteracy
there is health related problems. Due
to their poverty, rural populations
are unable to get basic medical facilities.
Realising these practical difficulties,
Godavari Biorefineries Ltd. conducts
health related social activities through
its rural development wing |

called Somaiya Grameen Vikas Kendra
(SGVK) in its area of operation. Few
major health related activities conducted
in last 5 years are as follows:
1. Multi Diagnostic Camps
2009: A two day multidiagnostic
medical camp was organized at Sameerwadi
in association with K J Somaiya Hospital,
Mumbai on the 14th and 15th November
2009.

More than 2000 villagers attended the
camp, 81 were referred for further treatment
and operation of which 50 were for cataract
operations. A free multi diagnostic
medical camp and drug distribution camp
was organized at Pratapgad sugar factory
area on 16th July 2009 in association
with K J Somaiya Medical College and
Research Center, Mumbai. More than 800
patients from about 18-20 |

| surrounding
villages attended the camp. Out of 800
patients, 329 were female and 471 were
male patients. 54 patients were identified
for cataract operation and will be operated
in our Hospital at Mumbai, in batches. |

ANKUR
PROJECT (PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS IN
YOUNG CHILDREN): Somaiya Grameen
Vikas is working to prevent the tragedy
of blindness in children caused by Vitamin
A deficiency. Beneficiaries of the project
were provided with all 3 doses of vitamin
A capsule as suggested by the doctors
of K J Somaiya Hospital, Mumbai during
July 2009. The target group was 3 to
16 years of age.
First dose was provided on 6th July
2009 for 437 kids
Second dose on 8th July 2009 for 399
kids
Third dose was on 24th July 2009 for
449 kids

Lecture
on Dental care: A special lecture
on dental care was organized for the
primary school students i.e. for 5th,
6th and 7th class students of Saidapur
on July 1, 2005. |

Medical
and Eye check-up Camp: In collaboration
with Rajiv Gandhi youth association,
Kesaragoppa (Mudhol taluka), one day
free medical and eye check up camp was
arranged at Kesargoppa village on December

Dental
Camp: One of the sponsors for
the free dental check up and treatment
camp organized by Lions club of Sameerwadi
and at Hallur village in Gokak taluka
on June 24, 2004 with help of doctors
of KLES dental college, Belgaum. More
than 500 patients were taken the benefit
of this camp. |

/ AIDS Awareness Programme:
This awareness camp was organized on
July 3, 2003 with the help of BIRDS/
ICHAP organization of Mudhol. |

check-up camp for primary school students
was organized on July 2, 2003 at Madhabhavi.

of one month i.e. from October 14, 2002

dental treatment camp: This
camp was organized at Sameerwadi on
June 13, 2002. More than 415 patients
have taken advantage of this camp. |

Camp at our factory hospital on February
14, 2002. This camp was organized to
provide free treatment, medicine and
suggestion pertaining to sexual diseases

on health awareness such as ill effects

Pulse Polio Programme: Actively
involved and vaccinated as many as nearly
10000 kids in first and second phase
of National Pulse Polio Programme conducted
during December-2000 and Janaury-2001

Hepatitis-B
vaccination: With the help
of Rotary club of Mudhol, Hepatitis-B
vaccination camp was conducted for the
benefit of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd.
employees and their family members and
also for surrounding villagers. As many
as 904 persons vaccinated. |
